1 Day
Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Moshi and a one-hour drive to Marangu Gate, located within Kilimanjaro National Park. After completing park registration and meeting your professional mountain guide, you will start hiking through the lush rainforest of the famous Marangu Route. Along the trail, you may spot blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and a variety of tropical birds while learning about the mountain’s unique flora and fauna.
After approximately 3 to 4 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700 meters / 8,858 feet), where climbers on the full Kilimanjaro trek spend their first night. Here, you will enjoy a packed lunch and have time to relax in the alpine surroundings. If weather and time permit, your guide will lead a short walk to Maundi Crater, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and, on clear days, neighboring Kenya. After the break, you will descend back through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, a trek of about 2 to 3 hours. Upon arrival, you will receive a day hike certificate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi in the late afternoon.

The best time to enjoy a day hike on Mount Kilimanjaro via the Marangu Route is during the dry seasons, when the trails are less muddy and the views are at their clearest. The most recommended months are from January to March and from June to October.
January to March offers cooler temperatures, fewer visitors, and lush green scenery after the short rains. June to October is the most popular period because of stable weather, sunny days, and excellent visibility. These months provide the most comfortable hiking conditions and the best opportunities to enjoy panoramic views of the rainforest and surrounding landscapes.
Although the hike is possible throughout the year, April and May usually experience long rains, making the trail slippery and visibility limited. November can also be wet due to the short rainy season. For the most enjoyable experience, plan your Kilimanjaro day hike during the dry months for the best weather and scenery.
