6 days
Your adventure begins with a morning briefing at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. After a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, you continue to the trailhead and start trekking through pristine rainforest.
This beautiful forest is home to towering trees, moss-covered branches, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys and colorful birds. After 3 to 4 hours of hiking, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, also known as Big Tree Camp.
Today you leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail ascends steadily, and the landscape opens to reveal the vast Shira Plateau and magnificent views of Kibo Peak.
After 5 to 7 hours of trekking, you reach Shira 1 Camp, where you enjoy a stunning sunset over the plateau.
This shorter day is designed to support acclimatization. You cross the spectacular Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world, with panoramic views of Kibo and Mount Meru in the distance.
After 3 to 4 hours of hiking, you arrive at Shira 2 Camp. In the afternoon, you may take an optional acclimatization walk.
This is one of the most important acclimatization days. The trail climbs gradually through alpine desert to Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation where you stop for lunch.
After spending time at higher altitude, you descend to Barranco Camp, located in a scenic valley beneath the towering Barranco Wall.
After breakfast, you climb the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep, it is a non-technical scramble and one of the most exciting highlights of the route. From the top, enjoy spectacular views of glaciers and valleys.
The trail then descends and rises through alpine terrain to Karanga Camp.
Today you continue upward through rocky alpine desert to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before your summit attempt.
Upon arrival, your guides conduct a health check and provide a detailed summit briefing. After an early dinner, rest for several hours before your midnight departure.
Shortly after midnight, you begin the most challenging and rewarding stage of the climb. Under a sky filled with stars, you ascend to Stella Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak.
Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable moment and a tremendous personal achievement. After celebrating and taking photographs, you descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest and then continue to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. At the gate, successful climbers receive their official summit certificates.
You are then transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to enjoy a well-deserved hot shower and celebrate your incredible accomplishment.
The 8-day Lemosho Route offers one of the highest summit success rates on Kilimanjaro, often exceeding 90% for well-prepared climbers. With extra acclimatization time, fewer crowds, exceptional scenery, and full support from experienced guides and porters, this itinerary provides the safest, most comfortable, and most rewarding way to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro.
The 8-day Lemosho Route is widely regarded as the best overall itinerary for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It combines a gradual ascent, excellent acclimatization, and some of the mountain’s most spectacular scenery. With seven nights on the mountain, your body has more time to adjust to the altitude, which significantly improves your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably.
One of the greatest advantages of the Lemosho Route is its outstanding summit success rate, often exceeding 90% for well-prepared climbers. The itinerary includes key acclimatization points such as the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, and Barranco Camp, following the proven “climb high, sleep low” strategy that helps your body adapt naturally to the altitude.
The route is also celebrated for its extraordinary diversity of landscapes. You will trek through pristine rainforest, expansive moorland, dramatic alpine desert, and the icy arctic summit zone. Because the trail starts on the remote western side of Kilimanjaro, it is quieter during the first days, providing a more peaceful and immersive wilderness experience.
Joining a group climb offers excellent value by allowing you to share transportation and support costs with other climbers while still receiving professional guides, porters, cooks, quality camping equipment, nutritious meals, and comprehensive safety support. It is an ideal option for solo travelers, couples, and friends who want to meet like-minded adventurers and enjoy the motivation of climbing together.
If you are looking for the highest summit success rate, superior acclimatization, breathtaking scenery, and a fully supported trekking experience, the 8-day Lemosho Route group climb is one of the finest ways to stand on the Roof of Africa and achieve a truly life-changing adventure.
The best time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the 8-day Lemosho Route is during the dry seasons, from January to March and June to October. These months offer the most stable weather, clearer skies, and better trail conditions, giving climbers the highest chances of reaching Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably.
The January to March season is ideal for climbers who prefer fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. During this period, the mountain is quieter, and there is often snow near the summit, creating spectacular scenery. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the route feels less congested, making it an excellent option for those seeking a more tranquil trekking experience.
The June to October season is the most popular time to climb Kilimanjaro. These months usually bring dry weather, sunny days, and excellent visibility. Trail conditions are generally very good, and climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views across the mountain and surrounding plains. Although this is the busiest season, it offers some of the most reliable conditions for a successful ascent.
The Lemosho Route can be climbed year-round, but April and May are part of the long rainy season and often bring heavy rainfall, muddy trails, and lower visibility. November and early December may also experience occasional showers, though climbs are still possible and the mountain is less crowded.
Because the 8-day Lemosho Route already provides one of the best acclimatization schedules on Kilimanjaro, combining it with the favorable weather of the dry seasons offers the highest likelihood of a successful and enjoyable climb. For the best overall experience, we recommend booking your group climb between January and March or June and October.
