Choosing a 10-day Mount Meru climb and Tanzania safari gives you the opportunity to combine an exciting mountain adventure with an unforgettable wildlife experience in one well-planned journey. Mount Meru rises to approximately 4,566 metres (14,977 feet) and is located within Arusha National Park, where trekkers can experience diverse landscapes and wildlife along the route.
This itinerary is ideal for travelers who want more than a traditional safari. You can trek through montane forests, volcanic landscapes, and alpine environments before heading into Tanzania’s famous safari destinations to search for elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and other wildlife.
Mount Meru offers a remarkable change of scenery as you climb, from forested lower slopes to higher alpine terrain. The mountain is also known for its dramatic volcanic features and spectacular views, including views toward Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.
After your mountain trek, continuing with a safari allows you to experience Tanzania’s renowned Northern Circuit. Destinations such as Arusha National Park, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti offer different wildlife habitats and unforgettable game-viewing opportunities.
A 10-day itinerary provides a more relaxed travel experience than trying to fit a mountain climb and safari into only a few days. TANAPA recommends allowing around four days for the Mount Meru summit trek, helping climbers acclimatize gradually and reduce the risk of altitude-related problems.
This package brings together two of Tanzania’s signature experiences: mountain trekking and African wildlife safari. Instead of choosing between climbing and safari, you can experience both during one carefully planned 10-day adventure.
The best time for a 10-day Mount Meru climb and Tanzania safari is generally during the dry seasons from June to October and December to early March. During these months, Mount Meru usually experiences clearer skies, cooler nights, and better trekking conditions, while Tanzania’s national parks offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.
For the best combination of comfortable mountain trekking and safari experiences, June to October is an excellent choice. The dry weather makes hiking more enjoyable, while wildlife is often easier to spot as animals gather around reliable water sources.
The December to early March period is another good option, particularly for travelers who want to combine their Mount Meru adventure with a Tanzania safari while enjoying generally clear conditions. The rainy periods from March to May and October to November can bring wetter and muddier trail conditions, although they also create lush scenery and fewer crowds.
