Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)

Your journey begins with a morning briefing at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. After a short transfer to the trailhead, you start hiking through pristine rainforest filled with towering trees, moss-covered branches, and diverse wildlife, including black-and-white colobus monkeys.

After 3 to 4 hours of trekking, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, also known as Big Tree Camp. Enjoy your first hot dinner and settle into your tent for the night.

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)

Today the trail climbs steadily out of the rainforest into heath and moorland. As the vegetation becomes more open, spectacular views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak begin to appear. The landscape is dotted with giant heathers and unique alpine plants.

After 5 to 7 hours of hiking, you reach Shira 1 Camp, where you spend the night with panoramic views across the plateau.

  • Distance: 8 km
  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

This is a shorter and gentler day designed to support acclimatization. You trek across the vast Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth, with stunning views of Kibo and Mount Meru in the distance.

Best Time to Climb the 7-Day Lemosho Route

The best time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route is during the dry seasons, from January to March and June to October. These months offer the most favorable weather conditions, including clearer skies, lower chances of rainfall, and better trail conditions. Dry weather makes the paths less muddy and slippery, improves visibility, and increases your chances of enjoying spectacular views and a successful summit at Uhuru Peak.

The period from January to March is ideal for climbers who prefer a quieter trekking experience. During these months, the mountain is generally less crowded, temperatures are cooler, and snow near the summit is more common. The scenery can be especially beautiful, and the peaceful atmosphere makes this season popular with travelers seeking a more relaxed climb.

The months from June to October are the most popular time to climb Kilimanjaro. This period coincides with Tanzania’s long dry season, bringing stable weather, sunny days, and excellent visibility. Although the route is busier, climbers benefit from reliable conditions and some of the best opportunities for clear summit views and photography.

While the Lemosho Route can be climbed throughout the year, April and May are the wettest months and are generally less favorable because of heavy rain, muddy trails, and reduced visibility.
